A lot of you newer Dippers probably think that your favorite Dip, be it Cope, Skoal or Grizzly, is not too old or, was started here in the states. Well, it may surprise you to know that Dip can be traced to Sweden and is over 180 years old! “You mean that our America Dip is actually Swedish, Dip Guy?” No but, the idea came from there. You see, our American Dip closely resembles Swedish Snus because the Swedes were the first to bring this type of oral tobacco to the states. When they saw that it costs more to import it from Sweden, they began to manufacture it here using similar methods. I say similar because it’s pretty close but has its own uniqueness. Our type of Dip was first made in Pennsylvania by a guy named George Weyman. He used a method that actually cut the tobacco leaves into fine shreds and added the processes that make American Dip unique. What is that method, you ask? It’s the smoking and fermentation methods that make American Dip uniquely American!
