How To Use Dipping Tobacco

There are a few different methods here so, let’s take them one at a time. While all the methods include “pinching”, there are differences in placement. In the beginning, folks used to place a pinch in the lower lip, back near the molars. The theory was that the Nicotine was transferred via saliva and the back of the lip, near the molars, is where the most saliva was produced. Up until the early 70’s, this is where most Dippers would place the pinch. Even in the Skoal Bandit days, this was where the pouch was placed. Back when you could advertise Dip on TV, the slogan “just a pinch between the cheek and gums is all you need” basically told you how to use the product.

Now, most Dippers place their pinch in the front of the lower lip because we now know that the Nicotine is transferred via the gums and the lip but, how much Dip should be used is another story. Some Dippers stick to the discreet, small pinch while hardcore Dippers like the large wads. It’s all a matter of preference but one thing needs to be known. The larger the pinch, the larger amount of Nicotine there is. The typical pinch is about 1 gram and has a Nicotine content between 8 and 12 mg of Nicotine, depending on the brand. The length of time to keep a pinch in you lip is a personal preference as well but the Nicotine is pretty much gone after about an hour but, like we said, it’s all a personal preference!
